Ok for the record, it’s April and it’s fucking bleeding hot in Los Angeles.
This has been a banner Sunday! Today I met one of my inspirations, Dr. Michio Kaku, theoretical physicist, co-creator of string theory and rock star! His ideas on the levels of civilization are fascinating to me and many of my short stories and my novel are heavily influenced by Kaku’s ideas.
I never thought I’d see Michio Kaku in person, but there he was! He’s smarter than I’ll ever be and sometimes his ideas scare the shit outta me no matter how fascinating they are. Kaku brings complex physics to the masses.
Kaku had a book signing and talk in Santa Monica today to support his book, The Physics of the Impossible. Kaku seeks to bring possibility to the imagination, all the stuff science fiction is made of. To be in the same room with this man was just….fucking cool.
The talk was more like an advanced physics class, complete with slides for effective note taking. By the time he started talking about teleportation, the group I was sitting with was salivating. If there was an advert in the paper asking for human volunteers for teleportation with no guarantee of success i.e. you’d be dead or turned inside out and explode like that pig thing in Galaxy Quest, i’d be hard pressed NOT to sign up. Hell just consider me there. My geek extends to crazy!
I freaked out and couldn’t even say my name when he signed my pile’o Kaku books!! I stood in front of him and held in the squee. In case you missed it. I get turned on by hot, dirty sex and theoretical physics. *g*
Here’s a brief interview where Kaku attempts to work out the temporal paradox and multiuniverses. He’s mad cool or just mad, either way i love this guy!

Very cool you got to meet Michio Kaku. I have his book Hyperspace but have yet to read it; physics intimidates me but I’m fascinated by string theory.

I can easily grasp the theoretical concepts but the math would instantly get me kicked out. All those equations would drive me mad! I’m stoked that Physics of the Impossible is going to be a 12 part series on the Science Channel. I will tune in.
Hyperspace is great. I’d also recommend Parallel Universes. The Brian Green books The Elegant Universe and Fabric of the Cosmos are brilliant as well.
Theoretical Physics is an emerging religious movement. We are one step closer to Starfeet. LOL!
I’ve also got The Elegant Universe and haven’t read that one either. I’ll get to them, I swear.
Tried the Open ID but it wouldn’t recognize my address. hmmm.
Doug
I read a part of the Elegant Universe but just like Guns, Germs and Steel, I watched the PBS special instead. LOL! LOL!
I know it’s lazy. and?
I’m signing in under my OpenID as test. I swears they fixed it.
I know Micio Kaku from his radio program on Pacifica’s WBAI here in NYC alled “Explorations” is an hour-long radio program on science, technology, politics, and the environment. It is broadcast each week on WBAI and re-aired on stations across the country. He’s brilliant!
He’s brilliant, indeed. He makes physics fun. It all seems very ‘possible’ when he says it.
I think I got smarter just by being in the same room with him! My brains that much bigger! LOL
I have never heard of this guy before, but since I am huge fan of Sliders I am going to have to get Hyperspace and his other books too. I tuned out of Physics when I graduated high school. I also have no idea what string theory is. I am one of those sci fi fans that pay no attention to the science, I just think it sounds cool, works for the story so okay I’m going with it. Damn it, now I’ve got to read science.
I started with Hyperspace and ran right to Parallel Worlds. String Theory is fascinating. It’s evolved now into M-Theory, the multiverse theory which is derived from string theory.
I’ll stop before I start ‘Modern Jackassing’, the art of speaking with authority on a subject one has but a thin grasp. ROFLMAO!!!
